ENABLING AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY BASED CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEMS

Project Goal - Children from the most deprived, excluded and vulnerable communities, live in condition that are safe, enable their optimum development and help realizing their full potential in life.

Objective - Children live in protective and enabling environment, free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence (ANEV) in target villages/ communities.

This project is focused at capacity building of children, parents and CP actors/stakeholders (VCPC, PRI members, Teachers, Govt. Officials etc.) to improve their knowledge, skills and attitude on child protection issues. At the same time focus would be given to improve the involvement of different stakeholders working for the well-being of children in the communities. And develop an environment where children will be free from any kind of abuse, neglect exploitation, violence, discrimination and harmful practices.

So the organization is giving stress on capacity building of stake holders for the well-being of children by advocacy for building a public mandate against child protection and for strengthening the child protection system with the effective implementation of child protection policies and program. Apart from this major focus would remain on building a community based Child protection mechanism with active involvement of children, parents and community and all primary stakeholders at each level.

The key components of the strategies

1. Awareness Campaign (Government department, Panchyat, Local Community, intellectuals and vulnerable groups) Awareness campaign informed by data base would be prepared for generating awareness among all the actors/stakeholders on child protection and related issues.

2. Capacity building for children and peer group to act as change agent

3. Capacity building of parents on child right to protection for practicing positive/responsive parenting

4. Increasing involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and People representatives

5. Advocacy and networking with Govt. and other like-minded organization and institution: -Data based advocacy plan would be designed to strengthen the child protection system

Implementing Strategy

Children would be equipped with desired knowledge and skills on Child protection, child protection system and mechanism(including referral mechanism), working and decision making process in PRI, , meaningful participation of children, community ownership in CBCPM, roles and responsibilities of different actors and agencies in child protection mechanism(under ICPS / child protection services), multi-sector approach in child protection, linkages(vertical and horizontal ) in CP mechanism and participatory decision making processes. so that they can have sound knowledge on the issue. This will be done through various capacity building training, innovative engaging activities and meetings.

Parents do not have sound knowledge on the child right to protection. There is a need to enhance their knowledge and skill on child protection and positive and responsive parenting to build an enabling environment for the children which is free from all sorts of exploitation and harmful practices. Their knowledge and skills on Child protection, child protection system and mechanism(including referral mechanism), working and decision making process in PRI, responsive/positive parenting, meaningful participation of children, community ownership in CBCPM, roles and responsibilities of different actors and agencies in child protection mechanism(under ICPS/child protection services), convergent or multisectoral approach in child protection, linkages(vertical and horizontal ) in CP mechanism and participatory decision making processes would also be enhanced.
